|This post has been dusted off and taken straight out of the "According to Matt Archives". Matt originally posted this content on his old blog "Crochet & Crafts According To Matt". We thought that it was a shame for creativity and inspiration to lay dormant, so we are recycling the content from Matt's old blog, keeping it available for you all to read, reference and use as you please.|
Welcome to "according to Matt"There have been no post in a little while! A shortage of inspiration or just plain old tired? Whatever the reason, words just haven't been coming to me each time I sit at the computer.
My little blog block definitely hasn't been due to a lack of things happening, that's for sure!!! Lots of things have been going on and today I finally have the urge to share once again. :-)
Oh.... whilst I'm thinking about it. Just want to say a massive thank you to everybody reading my blog. Thanks for the comments and encouragement I get with each post. It really is very generous of you all to take the time to read and message me. It really means a lot...... sooooo thanks!!!!
The first thing I really wanted to share with you was a little breakthrough moment I had at work last week. I have been trying to do a backflip for many years and have never had the courage to go for it alone.
My body is capable of doing the movement, but my brain would always stop me. I would practise with friends at work. They would support me as I would jump backwards. With the support I was able to do it no problem and with hardly any help. The moment they would tell me to try it without support I would simply FREAK OUT! It wasn't uncommon to see me standing with my hands in the air doing nothing but shake with nerves.
Last week, I finally went for it! I didn't think about it too much and just let my body take over. Here it is!!!! A little clip of me, super proud and excited!
I can't really explain how much of a big deal this was for me! It was a massive barrier I had set up in my mind. I feel like I have really opened up a door of possibilities! I cant stop doing them now!!!!FLIP! FLIP! FLIP! FLIP! WOOOOPWOOOOOP!!!!
Yesterday I finally got around to buying some bits and pieces to decorate the little glass jars a mentioned a few posts ago. I bought a little assorted box of ribbon from the art store in town. Three different turquoise colours. My favourite! I think I'm going to add some of the buttons and beads I already have at home, just to jazz them up a little.
I especially love the top ribbon! I think pink and turquoise look so great together!
Finally last week I managed to pay a visit to the wool factory.
The factory is just outside of the city centre of Hamburg and it is always a bit of a treat for me to swing by. Whenever i go to the factory I'm always super excited and enthusiastic about a new project I have in mind. Seeing all of the differnts colours and variety of yarn brings my ideas to life.
The wool factory is a great place to buy large quantities of great quality yarn. (HAHA! sound like a bit of a sales pitch!!!)
As you can see there are hundreds of colours to choose from!Once you have decided which colour you want you can then have it made to the thickness you require.
Here is my chosen wool being wound up on the machine. I needed my wool to be five strands thick, you can see the five white skeins becoming my 1200 gram skein.
As there are hundreds of different types of yarn and millions of colours, I usually go for very bright colours that contrast with each other.
However, this time I decided to go for something a little more gently on the eye. I ended up buying some gorgeous soft white wool. I had it spun up pretty thick, so I am using a pretty large hook when working it.
I'm keeping the pattern very simple and am just making large granny squares, which I am joining as I go. 10 granny squares in total. I think I will probably add some decoration to it, some tassels and cute little flowers?
As you can see in the above picture I have made a pretty good start to it already! I can not wait to reveal the finished product with you all. Hopefully some time very soon! :-)
I'm gonna post this whilst its still fresh!!! Got to run off to my singing lesson.....LAAAAAALAAAAAALAAAAAAAAAALAAAA.
More to come very soon though!!
I hope everyone is well and things are fantabulous?!!!
